10/7/2020 · I got a 1979 Mercury 150 outboard in-line 6 with 3 carbs. Have an issue because I’m trying to figure out why the motor bogs down when I try to accelerate in the water and it stops every time. I can accelerate all day long on water muffs out of water but when I put in the water and try to accelerate it bogs down and dies every time.

If I let off the throttle it would come back to life and then run fine if I accelerated gradually. After reading this thread, I pulled the plugs last night and both were oily and wet.
10/27/2013 · Oil Light 1994 8 hp 4 stroke As I continue to search for the bogging down problem, motor starts great idles nice and a green glow from oil light is bright, in neutral as I try to give it throttle I noticed that the light dims and the engines bogs down but as I get the rpms a little higher the light is very dim if not black.At least I can get some higher rpms now,I assume from carb cleaning.
7/1/2013 · It got right up to 4700 5000 and ran good until I throttled down to idle and problem persisted. After that run is when I changed hose and tank. Then took the boat out today and it was doin the same thing. Every time I put it in gear it wouldn’t get past 1000 to 1400 rpm before it bog down and kill. – banjo, 4/29/2010 · Got my outboard motor serviced the other day. Got a new water pump, LU oil and spark plugs. Mechanic said everything else checked out ok. Took it out Friday, ran fine at first for 15 or 20 minutes then dropped from 4300rpm down to 3000 to 3500 and wouldn’t go any higher at WOT.
5/29/2011 · 1978 70 hp outboard. having problem with acceleration . when put into gear, forward or reverse, the motor bogs down and even shuts down when throttle is increased. runs great in neutral. replaced fuel lines from tank to motor including the seperator filter, spark plugs, all three coils. did compression test on cylinders, #1=120psi, #2=120psi, #3=105psi, granted there is a pretty big.
